The Art of Non-Conformity Atlanta Book Signing Was a Big Success

Chris Guillebeau's Unconventional Book Tour in Atlanta

Chris Guillebeau's unconventional book tour in Atlanta

I hosted the Atlanta Meetup for Chris Guillebeau’s Unconventional Book Tour on October 28. It was held at New Tricks world headquarters which doubles as my bed and breakfast, the Urban Oasis . I am so blessed to have this amazing space and love to share it with people.  We’ve never had a bad party here so I knew it would be great no matter what and  this event surpassed all my expectations!  So how did this event even come about?  The thing is, I had not actually ever met Chris in person until the afternoon he arrived for the book signing. Last year, I found Chris’s website and started read his blog and bought one of his workbooks. I had commented on his blog  and I twittered him a time or two about things he wrote that I had info on, but that was the extent of it. When I heard he was doing the tour, I wrote to him on his site and offered to be a host for the Atlanta event. Then, serendipitously,  I also ran across Sarah Robinson’s course, [Read more...]

This is a smaller WordCamp and offers a chance to really have some face time with a lot of well known people in the WordPress Community and to meet and mingle with others. It is only 25.00. How can you lose?

Sandy Perkowitz – Counselor Score Atlanta

I want you to know that the evaluations from your WordPRess workshop were fantastic!  Absolutely RAVE reviews!   Most people don’t usually say much specific, so I thought you’d want to hear these

Kudos for “Laid out the info in plain language”  “well organized” , “easy to understand”,  “excellent step-by-step tutorial”.   Several noted  your “tips and tricks” and “do’s and don’ts”

As always, there was one who felt it was over his/her head — that’s pretty much par for the course.  There’s usually someone else who complains that it was “too basic” but not this time.  I would conclude that you struck exactly the right note.

Atlanta WordPress Users Meetup At New Tricks

The Atlanta WordPress Users Group is going to be held at 130 Krog at New Tricks Atlanta Headquarters on Wednesday, April 21 at 7:00 PM. This is the 17th meeting of this popular Atlanta Meetup Group. Jack Kennard and I, Judi Knight, his new co-organizer, will give a basic presentation on how to go about getting a WordPress site up and started. I have written a recent post on moving your site from a WordPress.com site to a .org site and it pretty much outlines the material that we will cover. The presentation is planned to last about an hour including time for questions and answers.

Jack and I would like try and find a format for the group that can satisfy the diverse levels of experience in this group. So after the presentation we we will break into smaller discussion groups so beginners and more advanced members can talk about the things that are pertinent to their issue and get questions answered on both basic and more advanced topics. We are trying to work out the schedule so that there is little something for everyone.

With all of the interest and talent in our Atlanta WordPress Users’ group, we also want to give others a chance to present, so please, don’t be shy. Let us know if you have a topic you’d like to hear more about or if your would like to do the presentation for an upcoming meeting.

Some suggestions have been to have a meeting on the new features of 3.0 and another presentation on WPMU (multi-user version) and Buddy Press. So stay tuned, and keep in touch. I hope to see you Wednesday!

Time for an On-line Makeover?

New Tricks was busy marketing this week on the premise that if we do our networking, and workshops in November then our December will be as busy as we want it to be. We had a great time at the Ga. Coaches Association round table meeting and the North Fulton Express Network Luncheon of the American Business Women’s Association. Good to see old friends and make some new contacts as well.

Here are our slides from both Dene’s and Judi’s presentations. The Coaches didn’t get to see Dene’s talk on Googling Yourself and other Online Marketing Tips. But both of the talks are on this Slideshare.

For those attending the workshop we are offering a free consultation on your on-line presence. We can do this by phone or in person so drop us a line or give us a call and we will get you on our schedule. We are limiting this offer to the first twenty people to respond.
